Guidelines

Arts and cultural groups that regularly perform or exhibit in the south Hampton Roads area are eligible to apply for Business Consortium for Arts Support grants. Applicants must perform or exhibit in Chesapeake, Franklin, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk or Virginia Beach or in Isle of Wight or Southampton counties. Applicants must be non-profits with 501 (c) (3) status from the Internal Revenue Service.

Applications are available each year on Dec. 1 and must be completed and returned by Jan. 29 before 5:00 p.m.

Office location: The Business Consortium is on the 14th floor of the Bank of America Building on Main Street in downtown Norfolk.

Recipients

In 2010 The Business Consortium for Arts Support awarded $800,000 to 33 arts and cultural groups that regularly perform or exhibit in south Hampton Roads. Since 1988 the Consortium has contributed more than $16.4 million to area arts and cultural organizations.

For 2010 the Consortium awarded 75 percent of its funds to the region’s six largest arts organizations: The Virginia Opera $147,670; The Chrysler Museum, $134,040; the Virginia Symphony, $130,450; the Virginia Stage Company, $93,150; the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia, $42,240; and Virginia Arts Festival, $52,290. Among the 27 other recipients, grants ranged from $45,500 to Young Audiences of Virginia to $1,670 given to Norfolk Chamber Consort.
